sunday setlist 2
August 24, 2008
Today, we tried to have a bit of variety in terms of style and volume. In the end, it worked pretty well. Bearing in mind that we are doing a blended contemporary, caught between now and 1980. I’d link to my church website, but it’s just embarrassing.
Here are the songs we did today:
1. Let Everything That Has Breath (yep, I pretty much rocked it on bass)
2. Love The Lord (acoustic with conga)
3. Blessed Be The Name (acoustic with conga)
4. The Summons (great song — you should sing it today! — we had to 4/4 it so even Presbyterians could sing it)
5. In Christ Alone (full band — music director started in Eflat — don’t do that)
We are going to introduce some more songs like The Summons in an effort to build towards a Taizè style service – PCUSA style. This is part of sunday setlists from FredMcKinnon.com

Hey,
Listening to “The Summons” now … thanks for the link, and THANKS for being part of Sunday Setlists.
BTW – your link back to the main “Sunday Setlists” post on my blog has some code stuck in it “/br” or something like that, HTML for a linebreak, so it breaks the link. FYI.
On “The Summons” … did you have any strings w/ it?
For the Kingdom,
Fred McKinnon

“In Christ Alone” is a great song. Haven’t heard “The Summons” but I’ll check it out. Thanks for the link.
Sometimes there’s nothing like a good conga!

We did In Christ Alone as our response this week. I think it might just be the best modern hymn around.
The Summons is a really nice song. Thanks for sharing.

I love the bass… the most underrated instrument on a worship team!! Thanks for the link to the song “The Summons”.

Thanks for all the interaction!
Must be something about worship…glad you liked the summons. It has alot of poower in the cletic time sig, but I don’t think the folks I lead would be able to enjoy it that way so I flattened it into 4/4. It’s still a great tune.
In Christ Alone, agreed. I wish that we were all a bit more disciplined in writing classic hymns. The whole church benefits in truly divine ways. Maybe that will be a blog carnival for a later date: Modern Medieval Hymn writing.
Again. Thanks for the comments one and all. I really appreciate you taking the time!

Ah, yes “In Christ Alone”, so love that hymn.
i have a great memory of that song being played for a wedding and a funeral in the same month.
